6:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Indian and Western semi-formal attire. For those who choose Indian wear, a suit or lehenga is appropriate for women and a kurta for men - see the FAQs for a guide to Indian outfits if you're unfamiliar! For Western wear, cocktail dresses, dressy jumpsuits, or a jacket with slacks are all great options.
The sangeet is the celebration of the bride & groom before they become a married couple. The festivities will include an Indian buffet dinner, drinks, and lots of dancing, including bhangra and other traditional Indian dances. Come ready to party as we kick off the weekend's celebrations!
9:30 am - 1:00 pm
Please note that everyone's heads, shoulders, and legs should be covered while in the gurdwara. During the ceremony, everyone who is able will be seated on the floor. Appropriate Western options include suit and tie, long skirts, maxi dresses, or jumpsuits.
If your outfit does not cover your shoulders, please consider incorporating a scarf as that will serve the dual purpose of covering your shoulders and head. Head coverings (scarves and bandanas) will be available for everyone who does not have one. The morning will begin at 9:30am with the baraat, or procession of the groom and his family to the gurdwara, complete with music and dancing. A light breakfast will be available from 9:00am onwards for all guests before the start of the wedding ceremony, or anand karaj, at 10:00am. The ceremony is centered around the four laavan, or marriage hymns, with the couple walking together around the Guru Granth Sahib (Sikhism's holy scriptures) during each hymn. There will also be a reading done by a member of the bride's family in celebration of our multicultural union! A vegetarian lunch, or langar, will be served at the gurdwara immediately following the wedding ceremony.
