Where we live is "Lake" County, and our downtown is on Lake Dora. You can rent all sorts of pontoon boats, kayaks, or enjoy a sunset cruise. The "CatBoat" tour allows you and one other person to pilot a mini-catamaran up the Dora Canal and into open water with your guide. It's a blast, and looks like Jurassic Park (see the above cover photo!). We've seen otters, gators, and all sorts of birds.
If you like golfing and feeling bad about yourself in a beautiful place, this is the golf course for you. The course is on a man-made island in Tavares surrounded by lakes on either side. It used to be a spot cattle would cross to graze. It ain't easy, but you'll see some raccoons, gators and birds along the way.
This place is knick-knack lover's dream. Like Homegoods and Michael's on steroids. Ceiling to floor seasonal decor including an impressive selection of fake blooms, vintage prints and enough Christmas decorations to make your head spin. It's the main attraction in downtown Eustis, basically. Did I mention they like to serve you snacks and mixed drinks while you shop? And there's a beautiful kitty that lives inside the owners rescued. It checks all the boxes.
A well-known antique, vintage and flea market under ten minutes from us. Up on the hill is the flea market with everything from vaccuums to funko pop collectibles, donuts to BBQ, and cactus to country stores. Down the hill are the antiques and vintage decor, so bring your wallet and your negotiating skills.
Mount Dora is an art and antiquing town a few blocks wide known for its Christmas lights during the holiday season. They'll still be up when you visit. Enjoy some home decor stores, ice cream shops, a few bars, brewery and distillery. The address above is for my mimosa lady who sits in a window downtown. Did I mention it's an open container city? Enjoy!
The Groves family bar. Been around 30 years. It’s on the other side of Orlando, but worth the trip—excellent oysters, rock shrimp, and we think the boss man is pretty great too. Still throws a mean spiral. It’s all Gata all the time over there, and that’s how we like it 🐊🍊🧢
