The Wedding Website of Kara Thomas and Conor Simmons
UPDATE: In light of COVID- 19, we have decided to redesign our wedding into a more intimate affair. We are sad to have to do this, but hopefully, this will help keep everyone safe and healthy. If you have received a “Love is patient, but we’re not” card, please enter your email under the “zoom ceremony” section. If you received a “Come for the love, stay for the party” card, please enter your email under the “in-person ceremony”. You can find more info below on our FAQ's page.
Question

UPDATED 7/15: What changes have you made to ensure our safety?

Answer

We have dropped our guest list down from 120 people from all over the US to 50 people who are mostly local to New England. We have asked all of those flying to either quarantine in NE beforehand or get tested. We will have masks for every one in attendance, and hand sanitizer EVERYWHERE including individual ones for each person. We have purchased wristbands of red, yellow, and green that will help others gauge your level of comfortably with being close to other/talking with others. When you arrive you will be asked to put in your info for contact tracing. We have gotten rid of our dance floor and will be asking people to give space to those who need it. Our older and more immune-compromised people will have options based on what they feel comfortable with (please let us know if you need accommodations). The tables will be less full and further away. Please know each day that we are thinking of new ways to keep everyone safe while still celebrating.

Question

Our masks required for the in-person ceremony?

Answer

face masks will be required indoors and outdoors (in spaces that you cannot social distance) in VT starting August 1st. We do not see that changing. You are allowed to take it off for eating and drinking while at your table. We have purchased cloth face masks for each attendee. You are more than welcome to change into that if you would like to, we ask that you wear your own into the venue.

Question

UPDATED: 7/11 What's going on in VT right now in relation to CV-19? Is it safe?

Answer

Currently (7/11) " Our seven-day test positivity rolling average is just 0.5% -- the lowest in the United States." We have reopened slowly and safely with Burlington requiring masks in all businesses. The people here are being smart and taking the necessary precautions. We are opening our borders to counties with less than 400 active cases of COVID-19 per one million residents is for quarantine-free leisure travel. You can find more information (updated weekly) below https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19/restart/cross-state-travel

Question

What if I need to fly to the wedding?

Answer

We ask for the safety of others that you either come early and do a quarantine on the East Coast or that you get tested upon departure or arrival. Most airlines are now screening at boarding, requiring masks, and in some cases keeping the middle seat open. The article below lays out how airplanes are safer than we had originally thought! https://www.insider.com/what-are-health-risks-plane-air-travel-2020-6https://www.insider.com/what-are-health-risks-plane-air-travel-2020-6

Question

Will you have another party to celebrate next year?

Answer

We hope so! That being said, the future is so uncertain right now that we have decided to table that until after the wedding.

Question

Why didn't you postpone?

Answer

We met 10 years ago from our wedding date. If you do the math that is 3650 days of waiting to be husband and wife and to start a family. Though love is patient, we are not. Though we are sad to make these changes and miss many important people we realized that the core of this all is us. Even if it was alone, we would be committing to each other on this day!

Question

What if I feel uncomfortable attending?

Answer

That's ok!! There will be a virtual competent to our big day in order to have everyone we originally wanted to witness our union. We would rather you feel comfortable at home than uncomfortable and stressed on a day of celebration. Please let us know ASAP if this is the route you'll be taking.

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

Yes, dressy casual. The venue has stairs, hills, beach, and grass please wear shoes you feel comfortable walking in.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

We would love to share our special day with as many people as possible, but due to CV-19 and venue restrictions, we are unable to accommodate plus ones. Thank you for your understanding!

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

To give all our guests the opportunity to celebrate without having to worry about little eyes and ears, we politely request no children older than 1 year.

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

We have reserved a block of rooms at 2 hotels, these can be found under the travel section on this website. We love the Airbnb’s in Burlington, if you’re looking for a cute Vermonty experience we recommend getting one!

Question

Are you registered? Where?

Answer

We are currently registered at Zola and Amazon. The links to both of these registries can be found under the “Registry” section.

Question

Can I take pictures during the ceremony?

Answer

Hell no. We’ve all seen professional shots ruined by that one phone or even worse, an iPad. Just be in the moment. We will be sure to share all pictures with the public when we can!

For all the days along the way
