While attending Oregon State University, Eileen and Byron first met at a Halloween party - and didn't think much of it. In fact the following semester, Byron had forgotten that he had previously met Eileen when they were (re)introduced by mutual friends at Impulse (a night club). They danced the night away and the rest is history. Eileen and Byron spent the next few years forming a deep love through traveling, eating, and more eating. ​

During a road trip to San Jose, Byron accidentally spoiled his surprise proposal while on speaker phone with his sister when she asked how he got off of work early that day, in which he replied, "I told them I'm proposing to my girlfriend today." Long pauses…then his sister asked, "Uh, where's Eileen?" Byron and Eileen made eye contact because she was sitting next to him the entire time. The next part of the long car ride was spent with Byron telling Eileen about how he needed to call off this proposal plan and of his other attempted/failed proposal plans. Eileen cried multiple times. Finally they arrived in San Jose at a park to meet with Byron's family. Eileen was totally shocked when Byron dropped down to one knee and proposed. Needless to say, Eileen said yes!
