April 20, 2016, it was draft night for High Country Young Life. Kalista was drafted to the Blowing Rock Wyldlife, which Heath had already been on for the past year. At first, she didn't realize Heath was her new teammate. She noticed him from across the room and knew she was smitten. When she found out he was actually her teammate she knew she was in trouble. Little did she know that Heath felt the same way. The rest of the school year included countless library "hang outs" and admiring each other from across the room at various events. By the end of the semester, it was apparent that both had a crush on each other. Summer came, Heath and Kalista knew they had to keep in touch. Heath went to serve at Laurel Ridge for the summer and Kalista spent a month at Trail West Young Life Camp in Colorado. Their only form of communication was through occasional face times on Sundays and hand written letters. Through those letters, their love grew, and they knew this relationship was from the Lord. On the first day they were both in Boone, Heath showed up with roses and took Kalista their first date. They enjoyed a sunset on the parkway, picked up a dozen donuts, had Starbucks as the cherry on top, and enjoyed an evening movie date. Throughout the next few months, they dated in secret to prioritize being teammates in ministry and respecting the feelings of other teammates. Since Kalista was new to Blowing Rock kids, it was important that her identity was known as "Kalista, the Wyldlife leader," and not "Kalista, Heath's girlfriend." They had many take out dinners, hiding from people at Ghost Train, and just being the "best of teammates" at App State football games. On October 23, 2016, Heath asked Kalista to be his girlfriend on top of Snake Mountain. Slowly but surely, they let the world know of their relationship and the rest is history. What a blessing to be able to marry your bestfriend, teammate in ministry, and favorite adventure buddy.
