Kaley and Alex’s story began one fateful day during the 2017 Welcome Weekend for the MBA Program at the University of Georgia. As all great stories go, theirs unfolded with the help of a few supporting characters (in this case, mutual friends — thanks, Becca!) who connected them beforehand. They decided to meet at the picturesque setting of The Holiday Inn lobby, so they could walk over to campus together on the first day. They quickly became friends, then best friends, and then to absolutely no one’s surprise, they fell in love. The rest is history — or rather, the beginning.

The best proposals are not without obstacles and this proposal was one for the books. After many months of scheduling setbacks and unfortunate delays (this was 2020, after all), Alex and Kaley were finally bound for Athens to enjoy a casual, “non-momentous” weekend in the city where they met. After a lovely morning together (which involved absolutely no sweating on Alex’s part), Kaley suggested that they pick up lunch from their favorite restaurant, Maepole, and bring it to eat in the courtyard beside the business building. In a twist of good fortune – or as some would call it, fate —this was the exact spot Alex had been trying to lead Kaley to all day. While eating lunch, Alex asked Kaley to “come look at something” and as she walked over, she saw a newly engraved stone with the words: KALEY AND ALEX MBA '19 MET AND FELL IN LOVE AT TERRY ENGAGED 2020 Both Alex and Kaley aren’t entirely sure what was said after that, but they’re pretty sure that Alex asked Kaley to marry him and she said yes.
