One Friday afternoon at work, one of Clay's coworkers asks what he's up to the next morning. She invites him to a brunch ...with her parents. 'Ok...' and(!) she says that Kaleigh, the girl she has been trying to set him up with, will be in attendance! 'I'M FREE!' - he shouts in his mind. What happens next is quite simple: Clay gets there late, sits in the one empty seat in between the coworker and her mother, orders his meal while everyone is finishing their plates, and talks to Kaleigh for a whole five minutes (sitting conveniently two seats away). That's how this story begins. Kaleigh and Clay would not meet again until December of that year - at some form of Christmas/birthday party. It is here where Kaleigh and Clay actually meet - it is also where Clay realizes that Kaleigh is so much cooler than him, but it seems like she isn't aware of it yet - thus prompting Clay to quickly ask Kaleigh out on a date!
364 days after their first date, Kaleigh is planning on attending a Christmas party at the George Bush Library. She was invited by her best friend who took her last year to the same event. The two approach the library, unaware that Clay is kneeling behind a nearby bush, in the midst of one final prayer before making the most serious commitment of his life. With nearly uncontrolled excitement, he withdraws from his hiding place and jogs after the two. Clay calls Kaleigh's name as he approaches them. Kaleigh, who is of course stunningly dressed for the event, looks up, surprised to see Clay there - 'how nice of her friend to invite him to the event too!' - she thinks (it's not clicking). Kaleigh's faithful friend sprints off, Clay offers his arm, Kaleigh takes it, and Clay leads them on a stroll through the library's beautiful, Christmas-light-decorated courtyard. What Clay said during that stroll was intended for Kaleigh's beautiful ears only, but it ended with a question: will you marry me? and an answer: yes!
