How Did We Meet?

The year was 2018. I (Oshay) was scrolling through Instagram during that time of year when everyone was posting their senior pictures, celebrating the excitement of graduation. As I scrolled, I came across a picture of Kaleah. I paused. Whoa, who is this? I thought. I had to know more. After liking the photo, I kept scrolling—but something told me to go back. What’s the worst that could happen if I just send her a message? So, I did. I complimented her on how beautiful she was and how amazing her pictures looked. To my surprise, she responded, and just like that, we instantly clicked. That night, we talked for hours. I was so excited that I went straight to my sister’s room and told her, I think I just met my wife. For the next few months, Kaleah and I continued talking. But as life would have it, our conversations became less frequent, and by 2019, we completely lost touch. It wasn’t intentional—it just happened. Fast forward to 2022. I was on social media one day when I saw that she had posted something. I couldn’t believe it—there she was again. Without hesitation, I messaged her. From the first few exchanges, we both realized how much we had missed each other. We admitted that we wished we had never stopped talking and that, deep down, something had always felt right between us. But at the time, Kaleah had her reservations, shaped by past experiences, and I had to remind her—no one is like me. As fate would have it, my immaturity got in the way, and once again, we fell out of touch. But then came August 2022. This time, Kaleah wasn’t having it. She made it clear—we weren’t going to keep playing this game of talking here and there. It was either I wanted her, or I didn’t. And I definitely did. So, I put my big-boy pants on and asked her out. But—plot twist—she said no. My heart dropped. But then I realized… I had asked her out on her birthday. And if there’s one thing about Kaleah, it’s that she does not like anything being attached to her birthday. She respectfully turned me down and told me to ask her again the next day. So, on September 13, 2022, I asked her again. This time, she said yes. And from that day on, our lives have only gotten better. We are so grateful for this journey and can’t wait to spend forever together.
