A life long story that unraveled rather quickly. Tyler's mom, Caryn Lamar, and Kaitlyn's parents, Ronda Payne and Len Elie, have been friends with each other since they were 20 years old. Caryn and her daughter Laura were a huge part of Kaitlyn's childhood. They spent just about every moment together until they moved to Alabama when she was 7 years old. Caryn then went on to marry Scott Lamar when Tyler was 13 years old, giving her a son and him a mom. In May of 2020 Tyler received a phone call from his mom while he was in Okinawa, Japan. She simply said to call Kaitlyn because she knew she would be his next girlfriend. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn was in the U.S. and her mom gave her a call after work. She reminded her of Tyler saying he had just gone through some serious life changes and could use a friend to talk to. She was also starting a new chapter in her life and was always up for new friends, so, she messaged him. It wasn't long after that they were talking every day, video chats, texts, phone calls, sometimes even skipping sleep. They quickly learned they both value God, trust, honesty, and family at the center of a relationship. Spending months focusing on these things and praying consistently that God would guide them on what was next for them all the while. July 2020 Tyler and Kaitlyn decided to take that leap. They began dating and not long after that found a place together in Jacksonville, NC. They still focus on those four fundamental things a relationship needs to withstand the stresses of time. Every day they ask for God's guidance on the next big step for them. After many nights of prayer they believe this is where they are headed in their journey.
