The Beginning

As with every modern romance, it all started with a well-timed swipe to the right.

The Proposal

Plan A: Havasu Falls meets Covid-19 In early 2020, John and Kaitlyn secured spots to visit Havasu Falls; a huge bucket list item for them both. John couldn’t think of a better place to propose! But like most grand plans in 2020, the trip was cancelled. But that’s ok.. what’s another year?? Cue 2021, when they announced a continued closure and John began to sweat. **Update: Havasu Falls remains closed and we are hoping to finally make it there in August 2023! Plan B: the “Rain Delay” In an attempt to make the most of lifted Covid restrictions and ease the blow of yet another year with no trip to Havasu Falls, John and Kaitlyn booked a trip to an all-inclusive resort in Mexico! It was Kaitlyn’s first time at an all-inclusive resort and they planned to do it right (aka keep the drinks flowing!). However, things went awry when they weren’t able to check in at the hotel right away and John was dressed for Chicago, not the beach. They sipped a couple cocktails by the pool and John powered through the feeling of being just way too hot. That is, until it was time to leave for dinner and he just couldn’t contain it anymore. Kaitlyn spent the first night in Mexico cuddled up in bed while John spent it curled up on the bathroom floor… little did Kaitlyn know while he was in there, he was cancelling some pretty big plans he’d made for the next day. He couldn’t tell them it was because he was sick so he said it “might rain” and he’d like to postpone for the following day. Plan C: the Success Story The next day John did some things that should have been signs: he refused to drink, he paced around the pool on his phone, but most of all he PAID for WiFi. If you know John at all, you know that just doesn’t add up… but Kaitlyn had not refused to drink and therefore remained blissfully unaware. The next morning they took an early morning ferry to Isla Mujeres, rented a golf cart, and drove to the southern most tip of the island to watch the sunrise. As they walked down the cliffs it became more and more beautiful until they reached a small clearing. John got on one knee, popped the question, and Kaitlyn said yes!
