We love being outdoors and going backpacking during the summer. Kaitlin got a recommendation to go to Green Mountain Lookout which has gorgeous 360° mountain views at the top. We planned for a two day trip, so after the first day of hiking we set up camp, did some reading, and drawing. Bright and early on July 5th, we had our cowboy coffee and oatmeal and started to venture through the snow. Through some snowy adventures and misadventures, we found ourselves at the top. It was a perfect day, no wind and perfect visibility with not a cloud in sight. We shared snacks and oooed and awwwed at the surrounding beauty. Justin set up his phone to take a photo of the completed hike, gave Kaitlin a huge hug, and asked if she would marry him. She said yes of course! :)
We met in the summer of 2021, just as the University of Oregon announced that classes would be returning in person. Like many modern love stories, ours started on Tinder. Our first date didn’t go quite as planned—Kaitlin accidentally missed it after an unexpected overnight shift at work. Thankfully, we were able to meet for lunch instead at Glenwood, near campus. Both a little nervous, we instantly connected over our shared love of music. In fact, during that very first date, Justin convinced Kaitlin to join the Oregon Marching Band! That lunch turned into a full campus tour led by Justin—Kaitlin’s first real look at the UO campus after attending virtually during the height of COVID-19. From there, one date quickly turned into many, and about a month later, Justin asked Kaitlin to be his girlfriend. That year, we were lucky to live just two blocks apart, which made it easy to grow close and build the foundation for something truly special.
