One night after the bars in Pacific Beach, Kai confidently announced she was walking the three miles home to La Jolla. Matt immediately shut that down and insisted on walking with her. They made it almost the entire way together, and with only half a mile left, Kai finally waved the white flag and called an Uber. By then, it didn’t matter, somewhere between Pacific Beach and La Jolla, they became inseparable. From that night on, Matt and Kai were basically always together, and that “short walk” turned into the start of everything.
