We ask that everyone attending is fully vaccinated at least 2 weeks prior to our wedding festivities. We also ask that everyone has had a negative covid test result the day of or day before the wedding. If you've tested positive for covid in the last 5-7 days or if you experience any symptoms the day-of the wedding we ask that you stay at home. Self testing kits for as little as EUR 1 in every grocery store (REWE, DM, EDEKA, ALDI).
For the most up to date travel requirements for Germany, please take a look at this website: https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/visa-service/EinreiseUndAufenthalt Entry requirements for other countries in Europe may differ, so please make sure you check requirements for each country separately.
No, a tourist visa for Germany is not required for visits under 90 days. However, if you plan to visit other countries during your stay, please make sure to check travel guidance & regulations before you go, as those can always change.
By Train Germany has a pretty good rail system. Traveling between major cities is easy and often times quicker than by car (https://www.bahn.com/en). You can book tickets online (and print them) or at the train stations. There are direct connections from Frankfurt Airport to Münster and the trip takes about 3 hours. By Car Depending on your itinerary, it may be worth renting a car. As you might have heard, driving in Germany is very different from driving in the U.S. Here are some tips: - In some cases there is no general speed limit on the Autobahn/Highways - On sections without a speed limit you are allowed to drive as fast as you want (crazy, right?) - You are only allowed to pass cars on the left. If you're not keeping speed in the left lane, some drivers may get aggressive. I (Julia) tend to feel more comfortable in the right lane, however, to each their own :)
- Rental car companies: SIXT, Budget, Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, etc. - Make sure to book a car with automatic gear/transmission. Most rental companies book a manual car by default. - All rental cars come with insurance
ASAP. With holiday weekends both in Germany and the US, flights, as well as hotels will go quickly.
The closest international airport is Amsterdam Schipol, Netherlands (2.5 hour drive), closely followed by Frankfurt, Germany which is about a 3 hour drive. Düsseldorf or Cologne/Köln Bonn Airport are about 1.5 hour drive. However, since they're a lot smaller you most likely won't find a direct flight if you're traveling from the US, Singapore, or Australia. If you're looking to book flights across Europe, here are a couple airlines we'd recommend: Ryanair (similar to Spirit Airlines, but even less expensive; may not fly into major airports), KLM or AirFrance (part of Delta SkyTeam), Lufthansa (United Airlines partner airline), EuroWings (Lufthansa's low budget airline), EasyJet, British Airways, etc. Any many more!
Sometimes. However, it is always good to have cash with you. If credit cards are accepted, it's most likely Mastercard & Visa; American Express not as frequently. When you take a cab, always make sure you have cash! Most taxis do not take credit or debit cards. We've confirmed with all the hotels listed on our website that they take credit cards.
It depends. In larger cities like Frankfurt or Berlin, you can use your US Uber app and order an Uber. Similar to what you're used to. Lyft does not exist. However, in smaller towns, cabs are still the way to go here. We recommend you download the MyTaxi App, which is somewhat similar. It allows you to order and schedule taxis on your mobile. You can also ask your hotel to call a cab for you; or if you're downtown somewhere, you'll always be able to catch a cab at a local train station.
5-10% "trinkgeld" is acceptable. For anything below EUR 50, it suffices to simply "round up" your bill (e.g., EUR 10.45 = EUR 11).
We love your kids—we really do. But we want our wedding to be an adults only event and for this to be your night off and celebrate without having to worry about little eyes and ears. If you need help arranging a babysitter, we'll do our best to help!
If your invitation says "and Guest," then yes, if not, then we would prefer if it was just you.
Invites, with all details, will be sent out early 2022.
Please let us know if you need a ride, we'll help you carpool. Uber & Lyft do not exist in Germany—cabs & carpooling are still the way to go! We kindly ask that if you are driving and have a couple seats available, that you offer them to others who may not have a car :)
A little bit of both :) not to worry, most signage will be available in both languages.
Yes, free parking is available at the church, as well as reception venue. Parking at the church may be a bit trickier, since it's quite a small town center. There is a EDEKA grocery store close by, approx. 5 minute walk. If the parking around the church is full, feel free to park there. If you are driving to the church, make sure to plan in some time to find parking!
