Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Elizabeth Kahle and Matthew Pike
Whether you're local or traveling by plane to attend the wedding, we're excited for you to make the trip and hopefully spend some time in the area! October is a great time to explore the Hudson Valley or extend your trip to enjoy fall in Upstate NY. There's also plenty to do in NYC (more than fits on this page) but we're always happy to give recommendations for our favorite Brooklyn spots! If you have time to spend around Poughkeepsie during the wedding weekend, below are some places we've tried ourselves and would recommend. (or check out what Redditors have to say: https://www.reddit.com/r/hudsonvalley/comments/1bb4v4k/what_should_visitors_do_in_poughkeepsie/)

Crew Restaurant & Bar

2290 South Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

To take advantage of the Culinary Institute of America nearby in Hyde Park, you can go to one of its restaurants, or opt for one of its partner restaurants where students have externships under the CIA alum chef. A lot of crowd-pleasing options for dinner!

Lola's Cafe

131 Washington Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

Great lunch spot with sandwiches, salads, burgers, etc. It's a short walk to get on the Walkway Over the Hudson from Lola's so you can grab a bite after crossing the Hudson River

Rosticceria Rossi & Sons

45 South Clover Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

Rossi's is a local favorite known for its hearty and delicious Italian deli sandwiches

The Poughkeepsie Grind and Cafe

107 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

An easy spot to grab egg sandwiches, pastries, and coffee in Poughkeepsie's downtown.

Walkway Over the Hudson State Park

61 Parker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

The world's largest elevated pedestrian bridge is right over the Hudson from Poughkeepsie to Highland on the other side. Cross the bridge (or just do halfway and back) to get spectacular views of the Hudson River Valley and see if you can spot the Grandview along the water!

Franny Reese State Park

Macks Lane, Highland, NY 12528

Franny Reese is an ideal option if you want to spend time in nature and explore views overlooking the Hudson without an intense or long hike. It has dog-friendly (Marjorie loved sniffing around) and easy trails, but you might want bug spray.

Mount Beacon Trailhead

Mount Beacon Trailhead, Beacon, NY 12508

If you're up for an intense hike, try Mount Beacon. If you get all the way to the summit, you can climb the fire tower for the ultimate vantage point. Expect it to take a few hours and bring some water, but if you're ready for a challenge the views will be worth it!

Locust Grove Brewing Company

162 North Road, Milton, NY 12547

Ideal laid-back spot to try a flight of in-house beers (or wine and cocktails), even better if you enjoy at a picnic table in the back with vineyards and the river in the backdrop.

Explore the Hudson Valley

NY

Make the most of autumn in the Hudson Valley with activities like apple picking, haunted hikes, historical sites, farmers markets, and more

Enjoy Dutchess County

NY

Find the top things to do local to Poughkeepsie's home county such as hiking trails, museums, craft drinks, events and more to plan your trip.
