Setting the Scene... Nick and Kaelene planned another Cape Cod trip with the Larimer family for their summer vacation. While planning, Nick asked Kaelene a few weeks before the trip if she wanted to go commercial fishing with Kurt Martin on his boat one morning. A chance to see a day-in-the-life of young Nicky's summer work on Cape -- She said yes that sounded like fun. July 2nd, 2022 (FYI: Nick says..."THERE WAS A LOT MORE PLANNING PRIOR TO JULY 2ND...") Anyway... It all starts at dinner with the Murray family, and the Larimer Aunts’ and Uncles’ playful banter about the potential rough seas for Kaelene’s Maiden-Atlantic Ocean-Fishing Debut tomorrow. …No way she gets seasick. Just in case, Nick, Kaelene, Dawn, and Dwight make a last-minute stop to pick up some Dramamine, to calm Kaelene’s new-found, motion-sick anxieties. Nick sets the early alarm for tomorrow, 4AM! Yikes, what is he thinking! July 3, 2022 BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Early morning alarm comes quick! Nick was overly excited but tried his best to act like it was “just another fishing trip.” Kaelene and Nick donned their very stylish and romantic attire: ocean-adventuring quick-drying shorts and pants, adorable matching chacos and longsleeve spf shirts. Can you say "READY FOR THE QUAIL HUNT" Off to the docks to head out before sunrise. First order of business, time for some fishing. Kaelene experiences her first Jigging attempt. She caught LOTS of little fish on the hooks of her line. She threw the line off the boat a few more times, just enough distraction for Nick to talk to Kurt's new assistant, Scott, about his plans for the fishing trip and to make a request for some videography skills later on. Then off to pull the Sea Bass pots. Kaelene watched the operation at work...safely and cleanly from inside the boat cabin. Kurt reeled in the pots, simultaneously emptying by tossing fish into specific bins (or back into the ocean), stacking bin after bin with fish. Nick and Scott were tasked with helping to sort the fish, organize the pots and line on the back of the boat, and hose down the fish slime. After sorting through a few hundred pounds of floppy, slimy, goopy fish, we hit our 500 lb Sea Bass limit. Next order of business, head out to deeper waters to pull some lobster pots. Kaelene banded the claws, trying not to lose any fingers, especially a certain finger, along the way! They wrap up their excursion after about 6 hours on the water, and make their way back to shore. They are tired, slimy, smelly; and the fish gunk is everywhere, which has now become a beautiful accessory to Nick's attire. In addition to the romance oozing from this story thus far, Kaelene hadn't put together that she was also rather drowsy from her morning dose of Dramamine. They begin to pass through "the cut" of Nauset beach where the Kelley and Hammatt camps used to stand; a place the Larimers' held near-and-dear on their infamous summer family vacations. Lots of memories! Nick has been out back cleaning off the boat and asks Kaelene to come join him. She notices some of the fish gunk made it onto Nick’s face. Kaelene asks Nick to come over towards her so she can wipe off the fish goo, but he turns away and continues walking to the back of the open boat (a risky move, some would say...). Kaelene couldn't understand why he was acting weird and wouldn't let her help him. He then pulls out a small box from his pocket. Kneeling, Nick asks Kaelene if she’ll be the “Catch of his Life! -- Will you marry me?!” Kaelene responds, “Are you kidding!? Are you serious? Are you kidding me?” Nick patiently waits on his knee and asks, “Is that a yes?!” Kaelene then says “Yes!” shaking her head up and down, extending her hand. Nick gets up and they stand together, holding one of their long, drawn-out, signature hugs...fish gunk, chacos, love and all.
