A staple Boise hike close to the downtown area. Park at the Old Penitentiary Trailhead and Table Rock Trail parking, which is free. The trail is 3.7 miles to the top and back down. At the top you get a great view overlooking Boise.
Take a drive up Bogus Basin Road. This is a scenic and windy road that takes you to the local ski mountain. Off of this road there are many trail heads for hiking. Weather dependant, this would be a great way to explore Boise. A great resource for hiking trails is the website https://www.ridgetorivers.org/. Here it lists trail conditons and maps.
Be sure to check out this park. There are trails you can access that take you into the foothills and offer great views. The park is also located in the historic North End part of Boise. Many beautiful homes and shops along N 13th street to explore.
If you are wanting to stretch your legs and enjoy scenery this is a great spot to explore. There are many easy hikes to enojy. Visit https://www.ridgetorivers.org/trails/detailed-area-descriptions/military-reserve/ for a list of trials and where to park.
Idaho has 130 soakable hot springs , the most of all the states. Most of the hot springs are free and open to the public. It is safe practice to not submerge your head underwater when in hot springs. There are more hot springs to explore between 1-2 hours from Boise. Feel free to reach out to Nick or I for more information.
Ketchum was also one of the first places we explored in Idaho in 2018. The city of Ketchum is home to the infamous Sun Valley Ski Resort. Outside of skiing there are numerous outdoor activities to do including hiking, biking, fly fishing, walking along the big wood river. Ketchum is truly magical in the Fall.
When nick and I landed in Boise in 2018 we picked up our camper van and headed straight to Stanley, Idaho. Stanley is home of the Sawtooth Mountain Range. Stanley is a 2.5 hour from Boise and is a small mountain town. The drive there is windy, so take extra precaution. This area is filled with Alpine lakes, fly fishing, hiking, rafting and more. If you are extending your trip we highly recommend.
On our first trip to Idaho Nick and I got lost and eneded up in the town of McCall. It was the best detour we could have taken. McCall is a quaint resort town approximately 100 miles north of Boise. McCall is located on the southern shore of the gorgeous Payette Lake. On your way driving to McCall you will pass through small towns that give you that Old Western Idaho feel. It is an ideal location for outdoor recreation including hiking, boating and fishing. The main street is filled with shops and resturants to explore.
