Maid of Honour
Carolyn and Alia met while they were both working at Lower Fort Garry in the early 2000s, and later volunteered together on the board of Friends of Lower Fort Garry. Despite their different personalities, they became good friends and now affectionately refer to each other as "my wife." They share a love of history, good food, cultural events (ballet, opera, and the symphony), and attending any events that allow them to dress up in historic costumes. They spent an unforgettable New Years 2020 in New Orleans.
Best Person
Breanna. Kenton favorite daughter! Breanna and Kenton have a very unique relationship, they share a very similar sense of humor and entertaining banter that speeks volumes for their love for each other. 2022 is a fun year as Breanna is exactly 1/2 Kenton's age. Having had Breanna at a young age, Kenton has learnt just as much from Breanna as Kenton has tried to teach her. If you ask her, Kenton tought her nothing, which just accentuates their unique relationship. Breanna is starting to plan her adult life, and Kenton could not be more proud of her. Breanna's place beside Kenton on this special day is a great moment for their relationship.
Matron of Honour
Alia and Sheryl met at a house party in the early 2000s and spent a lot of their 20s having a lot of fun together. Sheryl is part of Alia's "gang girls", who have a monthly girl's night. They share a love of ballet, tea, the "Archies", vintage clothing, house plants, and taking their dogs for walks. Alia was a bridesmaid at Sheryl's wedding in 2008.
Groomsman
Frank and Kenton share an enjoyment of good whiskey, golf, hockey and more importantly fantasy hockey. It was on the golf course nearly a decade ago where they first met (Mens night at Bridges golf Course). They also play hockey together. Their shared sarcastic wit made them fast friends. Alia affectionately refers to Frank as Kenton's "wife," since they are often on the phone discussing their fantasy hockey teams in the winter or planning their next golf game in the summer. Kenton and Frank complement each others lives both professionally and personally. Kenton is always testing Franks ability to litagate someone on a stand or just test his patience with his ability to debate or psychoanalyze a situation. Frank is quick to tell Kenton he is full of it, push back on his off center theroies and twisted thought process. They truely are great friends and they are always willing to help each other.
Bridesmaid
Alia and Katie met while working on the board of the volunteer organisation, Friends of Lower Fort Garry, in 2014. Since then, they have had many adventures day tripping around Manitoba, including up to Helca and out to Brandon. The many stops along the way always include the giant roadside attractions. In the summer of 2019, Alia and Katie travelled to Quebec City, they still talk about the amazing honey creme brulee and French onion soup they tasted on their trip. They are always making plans for their next trip/adventure.
Groomsman
Shaun and Kenton meet approximately 8 years ago while wokring on a project together. Shaun was an Architect for MMP, Kenton was the project manager for Manshield. At this time, they had no idea they would be great friends. Some years later, they crossed paths at a Christmas party with a Scotch bar, (Yup, Kenton and his pretentious Scotch) Shaun and Kenton hit it off. During their conversation, they realized that they shared a similar outlook on life and, over a few Scotchs, this started the foundation of a great friendship. Shaun and Kenton have similar ideas for real estate investing, renovations, and ideas for this type of business. They are in constant contact discussing home renovations, purchasing houses, or Kenton's ability to bail Shaun out of a renovation jam! (Just Kidding). Their respect for each other speaks volumes to their friendship and how they are always willing to help each other and support each other.
Bridesmaid
Avery is Alia's first niece. They have a special bond created by their shared love of history and all things old, as well as ice cream, bubble tea, and macarons. They have carried on the yearly tradition, started by Alia's mom, of going to the "Doors Open" event and checking out old buildings and cemeteries. As well as gone on many antiquing trips together in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas. Alia likes to say that Avery keeps her "hip and cool" by keeping her up to date with the latest sayings/phrases from the "young kids."
Groomsman
Todd and Kenton meet through work. Todd, now the owner of Cooper Rankin Architecture Inc., made an impression on Kenton with his amazing personality and similar outlook on how a project should be ran. As they continued to work together on projects, their friendship grew closer. Todd and Kenton share an enjoyment for golf and hockey, and also play in a fantasy hockey league where Todd seems unstopable. Next season, Kenton will "moneyball" the league and give Todd a run for his money. Their shared enjoyment for hockey, turned into a fun adventure where they attended a Jets game vs the Oilers. As they were on they way to the game, they hoped that their seats would be surrounded by McDavid fans. Well, this came true and the McDavid ribbing began in our section. This night turned out great as the Jets won this game, and McDavid did not make us eat our words. Kenton is excited to have Todd stand up with him on this special day.
Attendant to the Bride
Taylor is Alia's second niece, and shares Alia's love of music, dance, and history. Alia is so proud of her for graduating from high school this year and pursuing a history degree in university.
Attendant to the Groom
Brendan, Kenton's son, is growing up really quickly, turning 15 years in July. He is looking forward to driving and getting his beginners in January of 2023. Kenton is already teaching him how to drive at the golf course, and maybe an abandon gravel road. Brendan has tried a variety of sports growing up (hockey, baseball, soccer) and Kenton was able to coach Brendan on many these teams. Brendan never showed an enjoymeant for team sports so Kenton start taking Brendan golfing starting at a young age. One of his favorite golf stories goes back to when Brendan was around 7 or 8 years of age, where they attempted all 27 holes at Quarry Oaks. Brendan survived until hole 24, where he fell asleep on the golf cart. Being able to share his love for golf with Brendan is truely remarkable for Kenton. Kenton is very proud of his son and looks forward to watching him grow up into the person he is meant to be.
Attendant to the Bride
Addyson is Alia's youngest niece, and shares Alia's musical talent. She also followed in Alia's footsteps by going through the Ukrainian immersion program from kindergarten to grade 8. Alia hopes that Addyson will help to continue to keep the Ukrainian traditions alive in their family.
Ring Bearer
Wyatt is Alia's youngest and only nephew (another baby nephew is due in August 2022). We can't wait to see him in his cute little outfit at the wedding.
