Our Story

September 2015

It all began in the fall of 2015, a day that seemed ordinary but would quietly set the course for everything to come. Grade 11 of highschool, chemistry class—Jynessa and Cory found themselves seated side by side by fate, though neither knew it at the time. Passing notes and inside jokes soon grew into late-night study sessions, dinners at each other’s family homes, and a friendship that quickly became woven into everyday life. There was a spark—an awkward attempt at romance that fizzled before it began. They carried on as friends, though not without constant whispers from classmates and family who swore there had to be “something more.” Instead, they chose each other as best friends. Their bond only deepened with sleepovers, drive-in movies, campouts, quad rides, and late-night adventures. A simple road trip to Terrace the summer after high school became an annual tradition, one that cemented just how meaningful their friendship was. June 2017 Graduation pulled them in different directions: Cory went to Edmonton to play football at the University of Alberta, while Jynessa moved to Grande Prairie for volleyball. Goodbyes weren’t easy—Jynessa wrote Cory a letter and printed out a picture for him to remember their friendship by. These were the very first things he pinned on his new dorm room wall. Even miles apart, they stayed connected. Cory watched her volleyball games when she traveled to Edmonton, while later she joined his parents in the stands to cheer him on at his football games. November 2020 Years later, Cory returned to Prince George for a job at the corrections centre. The spark between them—always lingering—finally came into focus. Just days after moving home, Cory asked Jynessa on a real date. On November 12, with a dozen red roses in hand, he brought her to the Northern Lights Winery. Under a starry night sky, they reconnected in a way that felt both familiar and thrilling. The night ended with a kiss—a quiet promise of the love that had been waiting all along. By December 16, they made it official, and six months later they moved in together. Jynessa embraced Cory’s dog, Bear, as her own, and the three built a life together in Prince George. April 2023 Then came the news that would change everything: Cory was moving to the Yukon. While Cory started his new job, Jynessa stayed behind for six months to finish her degree. Distance only strengthened them; each call and visit was proof their love could weather anything. October 2023 When it was finally time to move, Cory spent a week helping Jynessa prepare. During that visit, she volunteered them for a couples’ photo shoot with her best friend Chelsea—at the very winery where they’d had their first date. Little did she know it was a setup. Mid-shoot, Cory got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She said yes (of course). Hand in hand, newly engaged, they drove north to begin their next chapter. May 2025 Life in the Yukon has been full of joy and discovery. They bought their first home on the shores of a sandy beach, welcomed a new pup named Maebe, and built a circle of friends who feel like family. Now, as they prepare to marry surrounded by those they love most, the story that began sitting side by side in chemistry class has grown into a lifelong promise: a love built on friendship, laughter, and an unshakable bond that was always meant to be.
