Sarah was starting her final semester of graduate school at The University of Alabama and Tommy was working as a local TV news anchor with a station in Columbus, Mississippi, about an hour away. That night, Tommy and his friend Samay decided to visit Tuscaloosa to see the campus. They ran into Sarah and her friend Libby who were having a girls’ night out before their winter break would end. Sarah and Libby were the only two people sitting at the bar at The Alcove when the two men walked in. When Samay made a comment about rooting for Clemson over Alabama in the upcoming football national championship game, Sarah turned toward him and reminded him where he was. Afterward, they all started talking and had a few more drinks together before the guys wanted to leave to get something to eat. Tommy got Sarah’s number before they left, and the two women began searching the internet for “Tommy TV Columbus MS.” (Libby is an excellent internet detective, so they found him quickly.) The ladies joined them later at Wilhagan’s, where they continued talking and getting to know each other while playing darts. Later, when Libby needed to go home to relieve her babysitter, Sarah walked out to the car with her. “Are you going to stay or ride home with me?” asked Libby. “I think I’m going to stay…” “You should kiss him!” “I think I’m going to!” squealed Sarah. Sarah went back inside the bar, where Samay told her, “I think he really likes you!” She summoned all her courage, and… A week later, Tommy asked Sarah if he could come back to Tuscaloosa to take her on a real date. The rest is history!
