FAQs

The Wedding Website of Justin Gellerson and Kate Stritzinger
Question

What is Black Cat?

Answer

Black Cat is a family-owned music venue in Washington, DC. Opening in the early 90s, its been a home for independent music in the heart of the U Street corridor ever since. It's also the place that Justin has spent his entire adult life, and happens to be the place that we first met.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

It's going to be dark. It's a music venue. We would rather have your company than having you worry about what to wear. Truly, wear what makes you feel comfortable. Some people will be more dressed up, some people will be in sleeveless shirts and jorts (weather permitting). There will be a film photobooth from the 1950s so look hot!

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Kids are welcome, but not required!

Question

Will we be entertained?

Answer

Come on. Obviously. Tchotchke will perform two set live, and Baby Alcatraz will spin records in between. There will also be pinball machines, a photobooth and some of the most eclectic souls this geographic region has to offer.

Question

Is there an open bar?

Answer

Yes, indeed! We will have a selection of free booze, wine and beer while supplies last. It's a full bar, if there is something beyond what we have selected, that's on you. The people bartending are our dear friends, so show them some love in the form of cold hard cash.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

Everything will take place at the Black Cat. Keep in mind that this is a densely populated part of the city, so we recommend public transit, biking, walking or taxis. Metro: The closest metro station is U Street/Cardozo on the green and yellow lines. It's about an 8-minute walk from the U street exit. Street Parking: There is street parking nearby, but it might be annoying. Beware of zoned parking! For street parking it would be helpful to download and familiarize yourself with the Park Mobile app. This makes paying for parking quite easy. Parking Lot: There is a paid lot located at 1820 14th Street NW Walking from the hotels: It is about a 15-minute walk from both the Darcy and the Kimpton Banneker.

Question

Do I have to stay all night?

Answer

Yes, until you can't stand.

Question

Will there be snacks?

Answer

Yes. In lieu of a formal dinner, we will have a friend shucking local oysters and wood-fired pizza from Timber. Gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian and omnivore options will be available.
