How we met

It all started with a swipe...

What might be surprising to some, but known by their closest friends Justin and Jennifer met on a fun little dating app called tinder. Jennifer had been living in Roanoke Rapids for a year as a new teacher and Justin had returned home after graduating college to teach at his alma mater. Jennifer came across his profile and was surprised to see that they were located less than a mile away from each other. Surely this was some kind of mistake. After communicating and getting to know each other for several weeks Justin asked out Jennifer. On their first date, they ate pizza at a local restaurant and traveled to a neighboring city Rocky Mount to go bowling. The two clicked and have been inseparable ever since. They were both shocked but excited to learn that tinder hadn't made a mistake and they actually lived less than 5 minutes from each other. Both teachers at the time, the couple decided to tell their families they initially met working. This little white lie soon became a fun inside joke for the couple.

The Engagement

Plan B becomes Plan A

The story begins on a Thanksgiving evening. I knew I was ready to propose, but first I had to ask her father's hand in marriage. Our tradition had become to spend Thanksgiving with Jenn's family in Spartanburg and Christmas Day with mine in Roanoke Rapids. I had just transitioned to a new job selling cars which meant this year I had to cut Thanksgiving early to drive back to work. While her dad was making his exit from the family dinner, I walked him out to his car and asked for his daughter's hand in marriage. We talked a bit more and he gave me a supportive yes. The next day after work, I went to Jared's and designed her ring. I already knew what she had in mind, we had been ring browsing before. With the perfect ring ordered, I was ready. We had a trip planned to Asheville for Jenn's birthday in a couple of weeks and I was ready to make this proposal a moment she would never forget. As the day of the trip approached, we noticed there was a snow storm brewing in the forecast. So our plans changed, and our trip to the mountains turned to a staycation in Durham. We invited some friends over for a pajama-themed game night at our place. And it was there I popped the question as Jenn wore her red flannel pajamas and I donned a Bugs Bunny Space Jam onesie. We celebrated the special moment with our friends and took pictures on our apartment deck as the snow fell in the background. Truly a night to remember.
