When parking at The Metuchen Inn, you may park in the church parking lot. Limited parking is available on the premises but street parking is available as well in abundance nearby.
The reception will be held outside, in a large tented patio with fire pits. Bathrooms and the bar are inside!
The private ceremony, beginning at 4:00pm, will only attended by close family and friends, as per invitation, and will take place in the historic Old Franklin Schoolhouse. This will also be the location of the After Party from 9-12am. The Old Franklin Schoolhouse was constructed circa 1807 and served as Metuchen’s only school for over fifty years. Fun fact: The building was also used as a private home for approximately twenty years. Metuchen-Edison Historical Society records indicate that the Markey Family lived in the building at the time and ran a cobblers shop from a small building located on the northwest side of the property, adjacent to Middlesex Avenue. 1880 federal census records include a Thomas Markey (50 years old, shoemaker, native of Ireland) and his wife, Catherine (native of Ireland, 40 years old) and their two sons (Thomas, age 9, and George, age 7). During the first World War, the building was open one afternoon and evening per week, for recreational purposes, to soldiers stationed nearby.
The reception will be held at the historic Metuchen Inn which has a rich history dating back to 1843. The address is 424 Middlesex Avenue, Metuchen NJ 08840. We are honored to host our reception here as it is recently restored after the entire bar area of the 167-year-old building was gutted by a fire in 2010. Fun fact: Before the Metuchen Inn's co-owner, Constantine Papanicolaou, entered the restaurant business in New Jersey, he played water polo for Greece in the Olympics.
