There are several forms of travel through the city itself. Certain sections can only be navigayed to by Jeepney like major roadways. Smaller roadways, people can use trikes. Taxies are also a form to travel but can be quite expensove over time.
There is so many different types of foods throughout the Philippines. Some of our favorites include "Sinigang na Hipon(Shrimp) or Baboy(Pork), Kinilaw (ceviche with fresh raw fish), Lechon Kawali, Liempo, lumpia and and so much more. The main dishes here will mainly be fish, chicken or pork based. On a side note Davao City is also know as the Durian capital of the world. Durian is a very fragrent fruit known from it's "Unique" smell and taste.
There are a variety of tours or even a bus station that will allow travel out of the city. These trips can be several hours long but allow you to visit other neighboring provinces like Mati, or Buda
The port of Davao has a variety of different vessals that travel out of Davao proper into the other islands in the bay of Daval Del Sur. You will need to take a taxi or a Jeepney to the port and from take a ferry to the other islands.
Americans can expect to pay very little for their stay in the Philippines. Average price for a meal is roughly 5 dollars and this is a substantial meal. Fares for travel are also pretty cheap ranging from .50 cents to 4 dollars. Taxis will abviosuly be more expensive roughly 10 to 15 dollars
Quinee and her family are from Davao City, on an island called Mindanao on the Sothern tip of the country of the Philippines. It is one of the largest island in the Philippines and the has the highest Mountain / Dormant Volcano in the entire Philippines.
If you like to hike trails, there are a variety of different ones just an hour or 2 ride from the city. We advise for anyone who is thinking of tryin to climb MT Apo to please reconsider, as it is a very difficult climb and requires actual training from hiking prior to even attempt.
Most would think that all Filipinos speak the same language Tagalog. While a majority do speak the language there are so many dialects from so many regions that certain provinces speak only their region language for the most part. Quinee, her family and the people of Davao city speak what's knows as "Biysaya" the second most spoken language in the Philippines. The dialect is so different that most other Filipinos can not understand it. But don't worry most residents do speak English but the older generation may have a hard time understanding you
It is recommended to have cash on you while your are traveling through the country. Many places on the side of the road only take cash. If you are at any modern restaurant you can pay with debit or credit. If you need to exchange money you can exchange at the airport or at many different exchange places. If you need to withdraw money their are various banks but we found BPI, PNB or BDO
