What is a "sangeet"?

Sangeet = "sang" (together) + "geet" (song) The sangeet, which literally means “singing together”, is an Indian pre-wedding tradition at which guests perform dances, songs, or skits as a way of celebrating the couple's union. The underlying belief is that music has a way of connecting us across cultures and generations, and carries joy from the ancient world to the present. So whether you’re performing at our sangeet or applauding from the sidelines, this night is for everyone, joined together in song and dance.
What will the night look like?

The evening will start with a mix of solo and group dances and songs. Each performance will be kept to just a few minutes so we can include as many people as possible. After that, please join us for dinner followed by open dancing for the rest of the evening.
What should I wear?

A festive evening look that is comfortable for movement and dancing is best. Indian attire is encouraged for all guests! However, dressy Western wear is also an option if preferred. Do I need to perform?

No. Performing at the sangeet is completely optional. The event is meant to be fun and festive, not stressful. You can always participate by cheering on the performers or joining the open dance floor after dinner.
Can I perform? How?

Yes! If you're interested in performing at our sangeet, we'd absolutely love that. What songs can guests perform?

There’s no required theme or style for performances. Do whatever brings you joy! Group performances are especially encouraged, and you absolutely do not need to be a “talented” performer to participate. High energy and enthusiasm matter far more than technical ability (this is especially true for group dances).
Do I need to know Bollywood?
✶ ✶ ✶
Nope! No prior knowledge required. While some performances may feature Bollywood songs, others will include Western music, other global music, or creative mixes.
