For me, our story starts in the Spring of 2014 when I was not accepted into the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine Early Entry Program. I was told that I simply was not smart enough to be a veterinarian… that statement absolutely wrecked me, but little did I know how beautiful the Lord’s plan was for me. I started at MSU as an Animal and Dairy Science major that was set on being a very well-rounded applicant the next time I broached the vet school application. I ended up being involved in student government, where I discovered my passion for advocacy and policy and where I also got to personally know the MSU CVM Dean. At my graduation in 2018, my grandmother asked me if I knew the “veterinary boy” from Paragould, Arkansas, “Isaac”. She was insistent that we were graduating together and I should know who he is; especially because he was the grandson of a friend of hers. I convinced her that I had not met any Isaac before, and she finally conceded. I started vet school that June, and 6 months later, the Dean introduced me to my current boss, who introduced me to the first year Population Medicine Resident, Dr. Isaac Jumper. I called my mom and asked her “Do we know someone named Isaac Jumper?” She responded, “That’s who grandma was telling you about at graduation!!!” I told her right then that I was going to marry him. After first year, I did a research project with the PopMed service over the summer; and I also acquired my sweet little corgi man, Lincoln. That summer I found out Dr. Jumper was in a relationship, and of course I was distraught, however, it allowed us to become friends. Friends who had similar interests, parents that graduated from the same high school (my mom and Isaac’s dad), and grandparents that eat spaghetti together on Fridays at local Paragould church. Over the next year and a half, we interacted only professionally through the rotations and classes that he taught. The truth is, I really struggled every time I interacted with him because I had romantic feelings for someone who had never done anything to incite those feelings. In fact, I cried to my mama the whole 6 hour trip to pick up my second corgi, Tesla, because I was so conflicted. Very shortly after that, I found out Isaac was single. I spent a LOT of time praying, I mean on my knees. I called my grandma, I called my sisters, my mom, my aunts, I called my friends, and asked them all to start praying. Praying for me to have patience, and for Isaac’s heart to be softened toward me. My people showed up for me, and the Lord was smiling as He watched His masterful plan come to fruition. A couple of weeks of prayer later, Tesla chewed a hole in my dry wall. This was the perfect opportunity to get help from my friend, Dr. Jumper. I asked him if he could fix dry wall, he stopped by my house to check out the situation, and then I asked him to take me to get a milkshake. Not just any milkshake, but a Stafford’s milkshake, which is a good 30-minute drive from my house. That milkshake led to a homemade pizza, and if you know me at all, you know that pizza secured the deal. Honestly though, this story is not really about Isaac and myself. This story portrays God’s faithfulness and goodness; He will keep His promises! I had a lot of maturing to do, a lot of things to work through. It is SO evident that God was molding me, guiding me every step of the way, to become the woman who would be lucky enough to become Isaac Jumper’s wife. We are thrilled for you all to join us in this journey, and we hope that our relationship will always be an example of Christ’s love for His people.
