Flight

American Airlines/United Airlines

Roatán (Islas de La Bahia) is a small island located off the northern coast of Honduras, and it has only one airport, Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport (RTB). The easiest and most convenient way to get to Roatán is by taking a direct flight. American Airlines offers direct flights from Miami typically operating on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. United Airlines offers flights to Roatán from Fort Lauderdale; however, these are not direct flights and include one or more connections along the way. Another common option is to fly from the United States to San Pedro Sula, Honduras (SAP), and then take a short domestic flight to Roatán. The most popular local airline for this route is Aerolíneas Sosa, which operates frequent daily flights. This domestic flight is usually about 45 minutes. https://www.aerososa.com/

Travel Note

Galaxy Wave/ Roatan Ferry

Ferry via La Ceiba (More Scenic & Budget-Friendly) From San Pedro Sula, travel by bus, flight (45 minutes) or private shuttle to La Ceiba (about 3–4 hours). From La Ceiba, take a ferry to Roatán (about 1–1.5 hours). Ferries are modern and reliable, but schedules depend on weather, so it’s best to arrive in La Ceiba with some buffer time. Helpful Tips: Keep your passport handy for both flights and ferries. Plan to drive during daylight hours only, no driving at night. The road is fully paved, but it is not a smooth highway the entire way. There are potholes, uneven sections, and occasional rough patches, especially after heavy rain. Book flights or ferry tickets in advance when possible.
