Ciudad Colonial Ciudad Colonial also referred to the Colonial Zone is the historic central neighborhood of the Dominican Republic capital Santa Domingo. It is the oldest continuously inhabited European establish settlement in the Americas. It marks the area where Columbus settled in the New World visit this area for its epic colonial era ruins, amazing local city vibes, and rich, Dominican culture history museums.

Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación

We went here on our first date and had a blast. I had to wear headphones the entire tour of the cathedral because the primary language was Spanish.

Alcázar de Colón

This historic governors palace was built by Christopher Columbus‘s son. It features period furniture and art, but unfortunately we couldn’t visit on our date because the area was under construction.

Columbus Park

We spent a lot of time in this park. Many photo ops in this city square with Christopher Columbus statue bordered by the the oldest cathedrals in the America’s.

Calle El Conde

It was a scorcher but this was one of my favorite spots. The buildings are breathtaking!

Calle Las Damas

I loved the calles in this historic area. We were able to see the stone walls, accented with baroque architecture and lying on the cobblestone streets.
