If you rent a car, check out the most famous city in the desert. There's plenty of restaurants, bars, vintage shopping, and culture to take in. Check out the midcentury modern architecture and history by car or by walking around downtown. Our restaurant recommendations are Norma's (at The Parker) for lunch or brunch, and Melvyn's for dinner.

La Quinta (and the Palm Springs area) can be a jumping off point for visiting Joshua Tree National Park. If you rent a car, you can drive to the south entrance (~45min from La Quinta) and explore your way north by car through the Park. Or, you can drive 1 hour and 45min to the north entrance and visitors center, and take the route south towards La Quinta. The Park can be explored by car or by foot via several hiking trails for a day trip. For a longer stay, campsites are able to be reserved through the NPS, and Airbnbs abound in the surrounding towns if you want to head here before or after our wedding. The closest hike within the park for a day trip is Mastodon Peak via Cottonwood Oasis. Plug Cottonwood Campground into your navigation and you'll see its a 52min drive from La Quinta, and it's an easy 2.4mi loop.
There is incredible and unique hiking in the desert, from slot canyons to palm tree-lined oases. Feel free to text Juliette if you want specific recommendations! (973-714-1359). Here are our favorites (though please note, they require a drive from La Quinta): Tahquitz Canyon, Painted Canyon, Indian/Murray Canyons.
If you've rented a car and you're in for a roadtrip, you can visit a revitalized Old West town originally built as a 1940’s movie set. Pioneertown is an unincorporated community with saloons, shops, and plenty of photo ops. La Copine is a popular restaurant stop along the way, and seeing a show at Pappy & Harriet's at night is always fun. ~1-hour drive north from La Quinta. https://www.lacopinekitchen.com/ https://pappyandharriets.com/
