Getting Around NYC

Google Maps

Must have to get around the city on your own. Google Maps will even find directions for using public transport. Pro-tip: You can download a map from Google for offline use by typing ‘Ok maps’ in the search bar.

Getting Around NYC

Uber & Lyft:

Highly recommended if you want to find a ride quickly. NYC yellow taxis can sometimes be hard to find!

Getting Around NYC

Taxis

You can always catch a taxi. Stand on the side of the street with your hand up and like a real New Yorker and scream TAXI, this usually works for Julie. Do not get into random black cars, only yellow cabs (unless it’s an Uber or Lyft). You can pay with cash, credit card or apple pay. 15-20% tip is expected. Lo siento.

Getting Around NYC

Subway

The transportation choice for millions of New Yorkers every day! Why? It’s cheap, easy and quick! The entry fee is a flat $2.75 and you can pay using ApplePay or a contactless bank card directly at the turnstiles. You can also buy a prepaid MetroCard instead.

Getting Around NYC

Buses

Can also be a good option if you need to get across town, say from 8th Ave to 1st Ave within the same street. Note that traffic can get quite busy depending on the time of day and wait times may be long. Pricing is the same as for a single subway ride and you can also pay with ApplePay / contactless or a MetroCard.

Getting Around NYC

Citi Bikes

Great option if you’re looking to get a workout and see the city. There are pedal-assist e-bikes available too if you’re feeling tired. You can grab a bike by paying with your bank card at the bike dock, using the Citi Bike NYC app or Lyft app. Price is $4 for 30 mins, a surcharge of $0.26 per minute applies thereafter. We do not recommend this form of transportation to the wedding, you need to save your energy for the dance floor and you might split your pants.
