Julie moved out to Seattle in Sept 2015 for grad school. Dating wasn't going so well as she regularly told people that thesis writing was more important than boys (she was right). Drew escaped to Seattle in April 2017 from the drudgery of western Mass. and reached out to Julie on a dating app within his first week. Julie, realizing this newcomer to Seattle wouldn't think she was lame immediately started talking to him about all the cool spots she'd discovered. Thus began the most beautiful texting pen pal relationship of all time. Talking pretty much non stop, Drew kept asking Julie out and kept *sort of * believing her when she said she was busy with graduate school. Drew was ready to settle for a pen pal, but they finally went out on a date where they drank on a stoup (Stoup Brewery that is) and lamented the woes of cross country driving and the weakness of the locals. The next week Julie broke all her arm bones and couldn't go on another date for 6 weeks. Finally, they went on a second date about five months after that initial conversation. Pen pals turned gooberfish fiances.
In July, Drew proposed on Julie's favorite hike in North Cascades National Park. He tried to get her to look at some beautiful vistas on the mountain pass but Julie just wanted to eat her granola bar in peace. Finally, he had her stand and started saying nice things to her which Julie just smiled and nodded at (Drew's the best and always says nice things). Finally, his heartbeat gave him away and she realized what was going on. He tried to propose again but then some random loud hikers interrupted him. After they walked by, he proposed and she was too nervous to let go of him so they just hugged awkwardly for awhile until he said "do you want to see the ring?" to which she replied "there's a ring?!" *sob sob*
