Julie is from Virginia, Doug is from Indiana... so how did we end up choosing to get married in Rhode Island!? Julie comes from a New England family, with her dad being from Connecticut and her grandfather being from Massachusetts. Her aunt and uncle also went to college, fell in love, and got married in Newport. The only family vacations Julie knew growing up were road trips all over New England, her family's favorite spot being Newport, where they have visited at least once a year for the last twenty+ years. Once Julie and Doug started dating, Julie introduced Doug to Newport and he instantly fell in love with the town and its energy (not to mention the arcade he can't walk past without playing pop-a-shot). It is a place they know will be special to them for the rest of their lives and where they will return countless times. We cannot wait to share our love for Newport with all of our favorite people and watch all of you fall in love with it too.
Absolutely not! If you are staying in downtown Newport, everything will be walkable or transportation will be provided. Note that some hotels and AirBnBs offer free parking; but I would check in advance as parking may be expensive or limited at certain accommodations. If you do bring a car, we recommend taking a drive around the island (Ocean Drive) to see some incredible views and visit some of our favorite places, including Castle Hill Inn.
For the most part, yes! However, Ubers and Lyft can be difficult to come by if you are heading to the airport early in the morning. If you are catching an early flight, we recommend scheduling an Uber or Lyft in advance. P.S. The Providence Airport is a dream and has some of the nicest airport bathrooms you will ever see. If you have TSA pre-check, security will be a breeze.
Yes! We will have transportation to take people from the heart of Newport to our ceremony, which is at a church about 1.5 miles from Thames Street. The bus schedule is below. 3:45 p.m.: Pick-up at Newport Marriott (25 America’s Cup Ave) 3:55 p.m.: Pick-up at Wyndham Long Wharf Resort (5 Washington Street) 4:00 p.m.: Pick-up at Hotel Viking (1 Bellevue Ave) You are more than welcome to also take an Uber, Lyft or drive to the ceremony, and we will have a bus that can take you to the reception. Please note that parking is abundant at the Church, but nonexistent at the reception.
Our reception will be an adult-only event. We have a great list of babysitters from our venue if you plan to bring your little one(s) to Newport!
