Julie and Cass met in early 2022 as students at Ole Miss after Cass was invited to YoungLife College, a campus ministry where Julie was leading. Later that year, Cass also began leading. At first, because of Cass's awkwardness, nothing really happened between the two besides a few conversations. However, in April of 2023, at a YoungLife leader retreat, Julie witnessed Cass flip a four wheeler, go unconscious, and break several bones. Julie, always calm and good in a crisis, applied a makeshift tourniquet to Cass's wounds and followed the ambulance to the hospital. Her first interaction with Cass's parents was calling to tell them that their son was alive. Julie also realized at this point that she wanted to switch career paths to become a nurse. During Cass's recovery, Julie allegedly had a thirty minute phone conversation with Cass that he does not remember, asking to come over to check on him. That visit happened, and Cass's parents told him repeatedly to ask Julie out. However, Cass was concussed, crippled, and heavily medicated. In August of 2023, when Cass finally returned to school alive and well (Praise God!), it seemed at first that Cass and Julie's relationship would stay the same. Cass, convinced that God saved his life for a reason, decided that awkwardness was no excuse to waste the life he had been given. However, even then, he still was gaining the confidence to pursue Julie. He would text her about Yaya's (his favorite frozen yogurt place), ask to bring her ice cream, discuss ministry, and even pick her up from her house and take her to get her car from the body shop. Finally, Julie asked what Cass's intentions with her were. Cass was afraid that this was her kind way of saying that he needed to stop flirting with her. But after many hours of deliberation with friends and family trying to figure out the right punctuation and word usage, Cass asked Julie on a date. They went to Opa and Dairy Queen and talked for hours, getting to know each other. It was no question that they were compatible. Cass, not wasting any time, asked Julie to be his girlfriend about a week later, on November 9, 2023, on their second date at Boure. Since dating, Julie has exercised extreme patience in dealing with Cass's silly antics, weird tendencies, and random stream of consciousness rants. Cass often says that Julie is the most Christlike, beautiful, loving, thoughtful, and considerate person he has ever met. She sanctifies him every single day. Cass and Julie love nothing more than to spend time with each other. Cass quickly could tell that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Julie. For about eight months, he devised his plan to propose to her. After painfully waiting, Cass proposed to Julie on her back porch on November 7, 2025, two days before their two year anniversary. Cass pledged to Julie that he would lead, love, and sacrifice for Julie in the same way that Christ leads, loves, and sacrifices for His church. Julie has engraved on the inside of her engagement ring the Bible reference to Psalm 127:1, which states, "Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain." Julie and Cass now are getting married and starting a family together on May 23, 2026, in Cass's family's backyard. In the future, they look forward to worshipping God together and thanking Him for His goodness and providence, having many, many children, building each other up, serving each other and outdoing one another in love, having long talks about anything and everything, growing old together, and always being on the same team. "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Ephesians 5:31-33
