After a couple weeks of exchanging texts, we made a date for a Saturday to go miniature golfing. A few days before, having gotten good news about a promotion, Julie asked Brian if he wanted to go to dinner that night. Brian agreed, and we met at Claim Jumper. Brian, having listened to many episodes of Julie’s podcast, brought Julie a four leaf clover. Flattered, Julie proceeded to spend the next 3 hours talking at Brian. The few times he was able to talk, Julie thought, “this guy looks and sounds like John Goodman. I love John Goodman!” Julie also recognized how wonderful it was to have a man so willing to listen to her talk about nothing and everything. At the end of the date, Brian walked Julie to her car and asked if we were still on for Saturday. Julie told him she needed to clean her house. Brian left feeling sad that he would never see her again. Julie’s side: I had been out of town for a few weeks and really did need to clean my house! I figured I could move up the date so Saturday I could clean. Brian’s side: I listened to her for hours and then she blows me off by saying she has to clean her house. I was sad. So now I don’t let her forget it. Julie: I realized halfway home, which was a very short drive, that I had been an idiot. I needed to not be afraid and give this a chance. Julie texted Brian with “I’m going to kick your ass at miniature golf on Saturday.” Brian said he would pick her up. We played in 105 degree weather, sweating into our eyes, and dying of thirst. We went inside Castles & Coasters and played some arcade games. At the air hockey table Brian “let” Julie win, because as she scored points, she would dance and jump around. Julie realized as she was celebrating her victories, that this guy was different. He was someone she could be herself around. They proceeded to go on about 5 dates in the next week and decided to go from “single” to “in a relationship.” And now, almost 2 years later, they are getting married.
