In June of 2022, fate had a little fun with us. Sjené and Jules both ended up at the same pride event in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Jules, being her usual solo adventurer, wandered around the park picnic, soaking in the vibe, and eventually made her way to the afterparty at Blue Agavé. Sjené strolled in a little later with her crew, confidently claiming a set of bar stools right next to Jules. And here’s where the magic began! Sjené, in her classic, half-jokingly style pointed to Jules and said to her friends, "That’s my next girlfriend." As Jules tried to ignore the glances from Sjené’s group, she noticed a bunch of teens outside struggling with parallel parking a huge SUV, a challenge she knows all too well. So like any good Samaritan, Jules stepped outside to help them out. Here, Sjené saw her chance and made her move. In the most casual and totally not-awkward way possible, Sjené complimented Jules and introduced herself. After buying Jules a drink, the two settled into easy conversation. The connection was immediate. It was like we'd known each other for ages. As the night went on and more people joined the afterparty, many assumed we were already a couple. At one point, Sjené leaned over and said, “Well, we've been talking for hours so this is officially our first date. Can I have your number to take you on our second?” (smooth move, right?). That second date turned into three, then four — and now, here we are, getting ready to make it official. What started with a fun picnic, a chance encounter, and a little bit of charm turned into the best decision we ever made.
