Question

Where is Hope Town?

Answer

Hope Town is a quaint, scenic town on Elbow Cay located in the Abaco Islands of The Bahamas.

Question

How do I get to Hope Town?

Answer

To get to Hope Town, you’ll first fly into Leonard M. Thompson International Airport (MHH) in the Bahamas—just under an hour flight from Miami. After landing, you’ll go through customs and exit the airport, where taxis are readily available. Let the taxi driver know you’re heading to Hope Town, and they’ll take you to the G&L Ferry dock. From there, you’ll board the ferry, which will bring you directly into the heart of Hope Town. The G&L Ferry costs approximately $30 round trip.

Question

When should I plan to arrive?

Answer

We would love for you to arrive on Wednesday and leave on Monday so you can make the most of your trip. We plan to coordinate events throughout the week and would love for you to join us!

Question

What does transportation look like in Hope Town?

Answer

Cars are not permitted on the island, so transportation is primarily by golf cart and/or boat. It is advised that you reserve a golf cart in advance to ensure availability during your stay.

Question

What is there to do in Hope Town?

Answer

Hope Town holds a special place in Julian and Robert’s hearts, offering endless experiences—from snorkeling and fishing to sunbathing (don’t forget the sunscreen!) and swimming in the sparkling blue waters. The island is dotted with beautiful beach access points, including Tahiti Beach at the southern tip of Elbow Cay, where you can swim and enjoy delicious drinks and snacks at the nearby swim-up restaurant, Thirsty Cuda. For an unforgettable sunset dinner, Firefly Inn & Resort is highly recommended. For a more upscale dining experience, Hope Town Inn & Marina is perfect. Captain Jack’s, Sea Spray Resort & Marina, and On Da Beach offer stunning views paired with lively vibes—ideal spots to soak in the island atmosphere. If you are able, we would recommend renting a boat in order to travel to nearby hot spots like Lubbers' Landing and Pete's Pub And Gallery.

Question

What is preferred payment method?

Answer

Bring cash for taxis and the ferry, although most places do accept credit cards. USD is widely accepted throughout Hope Town! Keep in mind, there are no ATMs in Hope Town so please plan ahead (speaking from experience…).

Question

How do I get groceries and liquor?

Answer

There are a few small grocery stores around the island, with Vernon's in town being the most well-known. For more variety, we recommend stopping at Maxwell's in Marsh Harbour —ask your taxi driver to let you swing by on your way to the ferry! Pro tip: Purchase alcohol at Duty-Free at US airport on your way to Marsh Harbour for better prices.

Question

Do I need a passport?

Answer

Yes! Please double-check your passport expiration date! The Bahamas requires your passport to be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. If you do not yet have a passport, it can take 6-8 weeks to obtain a passport, so please proceed accordingly.

Question

What would I do in case of emergency?

Answer

In case of a serious emergency, the Hope Town Fire Department has trained EMTs and a fire/rescue boat to quickly transport you to Marsh Harbour, where an ambulance will be ready upon your arrival. For life-threatening situations, they may arrange a private charter flight to the U.S. or Nassau. Your insurance might cover this, but it could also be at your own expense. The Fire Department numbers: 1-242-801-9991 or 1-242-801-9992. Please note we will have two plastic surgeons at your disposal - please leave inquiries to a minimum.
