The year was 2014. It was move in day at the University of San Diego. Rob saw Julian, the most beautiful girl in the world, carrying a box to her dorm room. It was love at first sight - for one of us. Rob made sure we sat next to each other in our first class, Engineering 101, looking for a chance to strike up a conversation. Julian made sure we sat next to each other in our next class, Physics, looking for a chance to use Rob's textbook because she didn't buy her own. Such started the story of an incredible friendship, and an unrequited love. We spent every day together, but to Rob's dismay, Julian had stuck him in the feared “friend-zone”. Rob, ever a player of the long game, was confident things would change because we were meant to be together (we can all note this as the one time Rob was right, and Julian was wrong). After 3 very long years, and 3 chances at Rob shooting his shot and being rejected, Julian finally saw what she was missing out on. She took a turn at asking him out and we've been together ever since (we can all note this as Julian actually being the one responsible for the entire relationship). In the last 7 years we've navigated the ups and downs of life together, including a grueling year-long long-distance relationship, establishing a life together in Denver, gaining an extra roomie in Julian's sister, becoming Uncle Rob and Auntie Jules and everything else that comes with figuring life out in your 20’s. 18-year-old Rob would hardly believe it if you told him what was to come.
