Jules and Briggs’ story actually begins long before most people realize. It begins 10 years ago, October 11 2014, to be exact on the day that the Kentucky Wildcats competed against the South Carolina Gamecocks for their first meet of the season that year. Jules would dive for the gamecocks and Briggs would swim for the Wildcats. Although they didn’t meet that day, this was the first of numerous times they would share the pool deck, probably walking past each other many a time throughout the four years of their collegiate careers. It was as if they were hidden in plain sight from each other. Fast forward a couple years to 2021, as they were both moving through life, Briggs was pursuing a career in collegiate coaching and was living in New York and Jules was grappling with the idea of potentially moving away from her long time home of South Carolina. Little did Jules know, Briggs was also grappling with the idea of moving back to Kentucky around the same time. They both made the decision to live in Kentucky that year and there begins their love story.

Since the move to Kentucky for Jules was rather spur of the moment, she hadn’t quite figured out her living situation yet but since Briggs and Jules were going to be working together, he very kindly offered up his spare bedroom. It was meant to be temporary but turned permanent as they went from strangers to best friends to falling in love.

The day Briggs proposed to Jules was a perfect day. It was a day filled with so much love and joy, and the two were surrounded by their loved ones to make it extra special. Briggs took Jules and her mom to a bourbon distillery for a ‘distillery tour’ that ended up not actually being a tour at all. All the while, Briggs’ parents were waiting, hiding, in the gift shop to celebrate the occasion! After Briggs popped the question, happy tears and laughs were shared between everyone over champagne and charcuterie.
