National Parks and Outdoors

France

Parc naturel régional des Monts d'Ardèche: Protected area in Provence renowned for its diverse volcanic landscapes, rich biodiversity, and notable geological heritage, recognized by UNESCO offering activities like hiking, biking, and exploring medieval villages within its extensive mountainous terrain. Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon: A veritable treasure trove of biodiversity, flora and fauna, the park boasts exceptional landscapes and deserves all the attention it can get, whether for its links with nature, its commitment to UNESCO, or its role as a must-see destination for geology and geotourism enthusiasts. Pont D'Arc: A natural bridge, situated in the Southern Ardèche, 5 km from the city of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. It's the emblem of the region. The bridge has a 60m length for a 66m height. It was formed from erosion in the river Ardèche thousands of years ago and is renowned for a magnificient view for canoeists and swimmers.

Historic / Histoire

Palais des Papes - The largest Gothic palace ever built, the Palais des Papes was erected by Pope Clement V, who abandoned Rome in 1309 in the wake of violent disorder after his election. Its immense scale illustrates the medieval might of the Roman Catholic church. Théâtre antique d'Orange - Orange's monumental, Unesco-protected Roman theatre is unquestionably one of France's most impressive Roman sights. It's one of only three intact Roman theatres left in the world (the others are in Syria and Turkey), and its sheer size is awe-inspiring: designed to seat 10,000 spectators, its stage wall reaches 37m high, 103m wide and 1.8m thick. Little wonder that Louis XIV called it 'the finest wall in my kingdom'.
