The Institute is dedicated to changing the world for the better through education, communication, agriculture, and the arts. It is a 100-acre campus with lots to do! The campus has tennis, volleyball, basketball, and horseshoe courts. Each of the residences has lawn games and board games to borrow. There is also an on-site exercise room, ping pong table and pool table.
We are happy to host guests at both the welcome barbecue and reception. Other meals throughout the weekend are available at the on-site restaurant for purchase if you pre-order in your RSVP. You are not obligated to eat at the restaurant on site but there are very limited options in the area, so we do encourage you to get your meals there. They are able to accommodate all dietary requirements, just include a note in your RSVP! All meals will be added to the bill you will receive upon check in.
Huyck Preserve borders the campus and offers lots of opportunities for fun and adventure. Hike one of the many trails across forest, field, and wetlands. Trails meander through peaceful old-growth forests, circle both Lake Myosotis and Lincoln Pond, and wind through several 80+ year old pine and spruce plantations. Visit the Rensselaerville Falls, which cascade over 120 feet. Ask for a map of the hiking trails when you check into the Carey Institute. Lake Mysotis is directly across the street from the Institute and has a beach and boating area. The Institute has kayaks to loan out but feel free to bring your own! The Carey Institute has beach passes if you'd like to take a dip. Lake Myosotis is also a perfect location for bird watching. Great blue herons and bald eagles can frequently be seen swooping across the lake!
You have a few options if you want to spend the morning on the green, but your best bet is Thunderhart at Sunny Hill, which is about twenty minutes from the venue. Thunderhart is a championship course, par 72, is set in the Catskill Basin, and offers 11 ponds and 15 sand traps. In addition to breathtaking views, this 6482 yard course is a “must play” with its scenic beauty and challenging design.
