Carlos and Juli met more than ten years ago (Nov 2010) when they both worked at Leo Burnett, an advertising agency in Bogotá, Colombia. They were friends and co-workers. In 2012, Carlos moved to China for work, and a year later, Juli moved to Dubai. They would sometimes meet with friends during Christmas when visiting their respective families. They were still in touch, but the time difference made it complicated.

Fast-forward to 2017. Juli moved to SF to work at FCB West. Carlos had been living in Portland, OR, for two years, and he was the only close person she knew on the West Coast. They became close friends and often talked about work, cultural differences between the US and Colombia, girlfriends, and boyfriends. Carlos visited Juliana in May 2017.

They met again in Cartagena, Colombia, where they each spent New Year's with their families. The day before New Year's Eve, they went partying and made plans to visit Japan and China. Juli wanted to visit a friend in Tokyo, while Carlos had a wedding to attend in Shanghai in May. They had an amazing time and enjoyed each other's company, making it one of their best trips. They kissed on the very last day at an underground party in Tokyo.

They started a long-distance relationship, seeing each other every two to three weeks and alternating between Portland and San Francisco. This lasted for two years until they decided to move in together. They signed a lease in February 2020, and a week after they moved in, the lockdown started, and they both began working from home. In 2021, they received job offers in NYC and decided to move.

After two years of living in NYC, they went on vacation to Portugal and London in the summer of 2023. Two days before their trip ended, they were walking around St. James's Park when Carlos took off one of his shoes and put his phone in it. Juli was confused but not surprised. Then Carlos hugged her hard; his heart was beating fast. They both started laughing and crying, and he proposed. And so, here we are today.
