Kevin and Emma’s story began by chance in 2021. Emma had signed up as a free agent for a local sand volleyball league and was placed on a team with Kevin, his friend, and a few others who would soon become close friends. What started as casual games and shared laughs turned into something more. Over time, their connection grew stronger—on and off the court. On July 4th, 2022, they set off on a spontaneous road trip to the Badlands of South Dakota, with Kevin's dog Jax happily along for the ride. When an unexpected storm rolled in, they found shelter and shared a quiet moment together. It wasn’t planned or dramatic—just simple and real. In that moment, Kevin realized how natural it felt to be with Emma, and how much he looked forward to more adventures together.
In July 2024, while preparing for Emma’s brother Sam’s wedding—where Emma was a bridesmaid and Kevin a groomsman—Kevin asked Emma’s dad for her hand in marriage. With his blessing, Kevin began planning the perfect proposal. By January, he had it all set: a surprise helicopter ride in Denver followed by a celebration with friends and family. But a spring snowstorm changed everything. Pivoting quickly, Kevin transformed their home into a romantic scene with roses and their dog Jax waiting at the door. When Emma walked through the door, it was just her, Kevin, Sam, and Caroline. As Kevin got down on one knee, Jax trotted over and gave them both sweet kisses, as if he knew exactly what was happening. Emma was completely surprised, and as the tears flowed, it was clear just how much the moment meant. To keep the celebration going they headed to one of Emma and Kevin’s favorite local spots—Burn Down. What Emma didn’t know was that some of their friends and family, from both near and far, were already there waiting to surprise her. The night was filled with love, laughter, and the kind of joy that only comes from being surrounded by the people who mean the most.
