A Modern Day Love Story

For the Love of the Algorithm

In October of 2019 a swipe to the right changed their lives forever. They communicated for a while over timid text messages until Curtis asked Judy to meet in person. Judy suggested meeting for coffee (mainly because it would be an easy escape if needed) and gave Curtis the address to the local Starbucks. Nerves accompanied by thoughts of "what if this person is pretending to be someone they're not", were at the forefront in both of their minds. As Judy walked towards the entrance door of the coffee shop, she noticed someone approaching her from the corner of her eye. She turned and their eyes locked for the first time; both relieved, they smile at one another. They talked until the coffee shop closed that night. They connected like two souls who finally found each other after a lifetime of searching. After the shop closed the pair continued their conversation while walking through the neighborhood. They spoke as if they were catching each other up on the lives they were meant to be a part of; two strangers felt familiar in an instant. It was the Algorithm that brought them together, but it was the connection, chemistry, and compassion, that fortified the foundation of their love story.

The Proposal

Christmas Photos at Table Rock Beach

Table Rock Beach has always held a special place in our hearts. It's the first beach we visited together. I remember feeling Curtis' excitement taking me to Table Rock for the first time. The only beach I grew up visiting was Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Don't get me wrong, I always had a great time in Santa Cruz, but always thought beaches to be green, seaweed ridden, and overcrowded. I never actually experienced a beach with clear water and a limited crowd. The view when we got there was absolutely breathtaking. It was a trip to remember with a man who would eventually get down on one knee at that very place. On 11.12.22 Curtis asked me to marry him at the same beach he opened my world to. It was an elaborate and unforgettable moment for the both of us. Curtis planned this proposal for months and even recruited his mom and my best friend to help him set up and pull it all off. As Curtis, myself, and Kaelynn trekked down the steps, I could hear faint music playing in the background: N'sync, All-4-One, Beauty and the Beast, Ginuwine, K-Ci & Jojo: a playlist I knew Curtis would never put together. I thought to myself for a moment "what is this dude actually up to right now" (lol). As we walked toward the water, the music got louder. I noticed rose petals on the ground in the shape of a heart and outlined with the words "Marry Me". Curtis looked at me and said, "I have a confession... we're not actually here to take Christmas photos". As the waves crashed against the rocks and the music of my 'hopeless romantic' days played, Curtis lead me into the heart, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. SPOILER ALERT: I said yes.
