We first met in DC in August 2020 during the throes of Covid. There wasn't much socializing happening at our synagogue, so a group of us would meet up every Shabbat afternoon in the park. Our friendship blossomed (1) but we were just friends at the time. In October 2022, Yoni moved to Tel Aviv to do a master's degree and Judy stayed in dc, but we stayed in touch throughout. In April 2024, as part of her MFA, Judy went to Oxford, England to do research on a Hebrew manuscript. Yoni, hearing that his good friend was flying across the Atlantic, and having always wanted to see Stonehenge, decided to fly from Israel and meet Judy halfway in England (2). We saw Stonehenge and then went to the Cotswolds, cute little English hamlet villages in the countryside. Over a glass of Cotswolds whisky (which we highly recommend!) (3) we had the talk, and decided to start dating! We both moved to New York and the rest is history. Going back to our DC and British roots, Yoni proposed to Judy at the British embassy in Washington DC (4). He made sure he was fully on British property grounds when he proposed.
