Judy’s Version: Like most great love stories, it began at a piano bar in Baltimore, MD. A mutual friend Carolyn (once a college roommate, now a bridesmaid) invited us to her birthday party. I was freshly single, and looking for Mr. Right Now. Bobby was NOT so single. Bobby’s Version: I agreed to meet up with Carolyn and company for her birthday in Baltimore, despite being very busy. I'm incredibly popular and it's hard to make my rounds to keep up with everyone. I was not single at the time because as most of you know, I'm fantastic.
Judy’s Version: Five months later, I'm still out there rocking the single lifestyle. A lot of my time was spent at T.J. Maxx smelling candles and bragging about how I never get sick. I was a damn catch! Bobby on the other hand, had just re-entered the dating scene, and.. well, was a work in progress. Our friend Carolyn never admitted it, but she felt bad for him. If I had to be honest, a part of me did too. So, we let him tag along on our girl's nights out. From the start, I tried to be his Yoda. Took him under my wing and showed him how to pick up ladies. But his attention quickly shifted to me (understandably, did I mention that I NEVER get sick?). He pursued me HARD. As Carolyn recalls it, "he begged her for my phone number." Eventually, she gave it to him. That’s when the atomic bomb of flirty/desperate text messages dropped. Was it pity, fatigue, or a combination of both? I don't know, but after a few weeks I agreed to go on a date. Bobby’s Version: Single Bobby was back in the game and ready to get Rated R. Carolyn was desperate for my friendship, so I agreed to hang out with her and a buddy, Judith. From the beginning it was obvious Judy was into me, and I’m not going to lie, I was into her. But I wasn’t going to pursue her, just yet. She was strange to me. She was desperately trying to find me a girl to date despite me wanting to remain single. As we were getting to know each other, I couldn't quite hit it off with her. Everything I told her about myself wasn't good enough. She was appalled by what I considered accomplishments. She wasn't easily impressed. I saw this as a challenge to make this girl like me. But I liked the challenge. I asked Carolyn for Judy’s number. I literally asked ONCE, there was no begging. I played it cool with a few jokes and flirty texts. The next thing you know, I’m driving to Lancaster!
Judy’s Version: Bobby drove all the way to Lancaster and we went to Spring House Brewery. Like a Gonorrhea outbreak in a retirement community, he took me by surprise! After that we were inseparable. Bobby’s Version: I nailed our first date. I had no worries. Showed up in my glasses, looking all smart and handsome. It was a done deal.
Judy’s Version: Early on, Bobby and I discovered that we both loved the artist Drake. A few weeks after our first date, he surprised me with tickets to the Drake vs. Lil Wayne concert. (At this point, it was blatant that Bobby was just smitten with me. I mean, come on… Drake tickets? You barely knew me?!) As Drake so tastefully puts it, “We had the type of nights where morning comes too soon.” In all the excitement, Bobby worked up the courage to ask me to be his girlfriend. I yawned and said, "uuuhhh…yeah, cool." Bobby’s Version: Judy and I bonded over Drake’s music, so I decided to take us to his next concert, Drake v. Lil Wayne. Later that night, Judy asked the question that all women ask, “So, like...what are we?” Feeling the pressure, I caved and asked her if she’d be my girlfriend.
Judy’s Version: Four years later, Bobby surprises me with a weekend trip to Pocono Manor. Funny enough, I had no clue he was going to propose! If he'd spent the extra money to go skeet shooting, then I may have grown suspicious. But we stuck to the free activities, carved some pumpkins, pet some goats, and went hiking. As we walked in front of the waterfalls, I stopped to take pictures. When I turned around, he was on one knee. I was in complete shock and spent the next few weeks just ogling my shiny new ring. Bobby tells me that I'm the greatest thing to ever happen to him, and he sure as hell is the greatest thing to ever happen to me. I don't know where our future will take us, but what I know for certain is that sweet chili Doritos makes everything better and I can't wait to laugh my life away with this hilarious man. Bobby’s Version: Fast forward 4 years later and I realized it was time. Time to ask this girl if she’s willing to grow old with me. I decided to take her to Pocono Manor for a little weekend trip. Yeah, I’m a stingy guy, we stuck to the activities provided in the package I bought, sue me! FYI, drinks and dinner were NOT included in said package, but I still made it happen. Ugh, I’ll never see that money again...oh well... Judy remembers our story a little differently than I do, but she did get one thing right. I do believe she’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me. I look forward to forever with her and the laughs I know we’ll share. Thanks for reading.
