Question

What can we expect for weather?

Answer

Bring sunglasses and sunscreen! In February the weather here is perfect! The average high for this date is 72° and the average low is 49°. We only average 3 days with rain in February, so we have an excellent chance of having a beautiful weekend. Shorts during the day and sweater/hoodie in the evenings. Humidity is about 7-10%. So you dry out quickly. We encourage you to start drinking water before you come and each day here, 3 liters a day and some electrolytes. It is very easy to get dehydrated with headache and other symptoms just by being here. It is the desert, so please respect that. Staying healthy will let you enjoy the events so much better!

Question

What are the big cactus?🌵

Answer

Saguaro (pronounced suh-waa-row) cactus are the tall majestic iconic tree-like cactus and only grace the Sonoran Desert . They grow up to 60 feet tall and are as old as 600 years, and can weigh 4,800 pounds. To tolerate the desert, they are slow growing and very careful with their water preservation. They can have up to 25 "arms" and don't grow an arm until they are about 50 years old. So, one with multiple arms you can be assured is likely well over 100 years old. Saguaros are protected in Arizona and there are conservation efforts to support ailing saguaros, so you might see one that got too wet or knocked down in a storm propped up with some boards and rope. They flower in the spring and fruit in the summer.

Question

How is the traffic?

Answer

We have picked our wedding date to avoid some major things going on in the area but this is high season for tourists because the weather is so beautiful. Also, you are mainly going to be in Scottsdale and not the Phoenix downtown area. So, there will be traffic that could take 20 minutes to get the airport instead of 17. So plan for some but it shouldn't be a significant inconvenience. The Barrett-Jackson auto auction is in late January and the PGA Tour's Phoenix Open (which is actually in Scottsdale) will be in early February. MLB's Cactus League Spring Training will just be starting. There are 3 Major League teams (The Diamondbacks, Rockies and Giants) that call Scottsdale home in the spring. There is some road widening on the 101 (Pima Freeway) near the Cactus and Shea exits, which is the area where the events will be, so try to avoid the 101 whenever possible

For all the days along the way
