It was Wed night, Feb. 3, 2016. Juan had not left his apartment for months given his dedication to his new headhunting business. He decided to go to an InterNations event for young professionals in South Beach. Aarti saw the same InterNations event in her email, and headed over by herself to the hip new CraftBeer pop-up bar, next to PrimeFish restaurant. She walked around the bar, and someone (some "Juan") came up and said, "Hey, you want to join our conversation?" Aarti joined the group, and was quite fascinated by Juan's passion in conversation about so many diverse topics. Juan, for his part, was surprised to find an Indian woman in Miami, as Asians are only 1 in 267 in Miami, so this was already a rare moment. After some time, Aarti asked him if he had been married as he said he was 45 years old (and no normal guy can still be single at that age, right! : ) Juan chuckled and confirmed that yes, he was single, and yes, he was normal. At that point, Juan was getting uncomfortable given the loud noise and need to shout to be heard. As such, he asked Aarti to join him for dinner at PrimeFish, the restaurant next door. Although perplexed by the invitation, Aarti's interest was piqued by Juan's direct, unconventional offer and accepted. That dinner became the portal to their mutual exploration, which lasted four hours, and they closed the restaurant at 2 am! There were several moments during the conversation that could be seen as "signs" that this encounter might be guided by a higher force of synchronicity. First, they learned that they both went to Harvard College and were varsity athletes while there (Aarti-Tennis'03, Juan-Soccer'93). Interestingly, both their fathers got graduate degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, during the same time period! It was the beginning of their journey of love, family, and marriage.
