Life as we knew it had gone sideways. Our world was shut down literally by the pandemic. Our borders were closed, airports were closed, life practically stood still. Juan had come to Los Angeles to be with family and was caught in the states during the Covid shutdown. There wasn't a lot of hope in that moment for much let alone a thought in the world that our hearts would collide. Early in May of 2020 our friends had other plans for us. In a hope of some normalcy, we connected on a starry night on the beach. We remember it like it was yesterday. Later that same week, we returned to the exact same beach for our first date, our first sunset, and never knew where that night would take us. We are so grateful that out of a year that was so difficult, we were blessed to find our forever person.
Leading up to this day we made time to travel back & forth between the U.S. & Guatemala to be together. Often spending months apart and trying to navigate our new love. This day however would be the day that we had to change the way our relationship looked even more. The world decided that a little extra distance was necessary for this part of our journey. Angie would begin travelling regularly to visit Juan and be blessed by the beautiful travels and experiences of Juan's native country of Guatemala. Our perspective of life and how grateful we were to find the love we shared became so much bigger than we realized before this horrible and hurtful day. It might of seemed so simple to find each other, but now we have to put in the work to keep our love strong. We try hard everyday and know that it will all be worth it once this chapter is over. Step by step we knew our hearts were in this together and with every visit we become a stronger team even when we are often many miles apart. This is definitely the hardest part when all you need & want is your partner nearby. Together we are always looking for the lessons, even in the hard times. We fully believe there are many lessons to be learned during this time and choose to accept this is just a temporary reality for us.
We are currently planning a wedding later this 2022 calendar year in Guatemala. There will be a day that Mr. & Mrs. Wiley-Montenegro will be together again in Los Angeles. When that happens you can all expect additional wedding celebrations in the states. For those of you that cannot make the Guatemalan festivities and decide to hold off to celebrate with us, we fully appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you all when that is possible. Though we cannot make any promises yet, we fully expect a very Midwest reception in Illinois and something in LA. We don't know what that looks like right now or when it will be realized, but in the meantime you can expect to see our smiling faces during our travels to be together and we will continue to update everyone when we know more.
