How We Met

June 2019 from Ale's point of view

It was an unusually cool night in June, and it was Juan's first time going to the Salsa dance social I attended on Thursdays in Greenville, SC. He walked up to me and asked me to dance. After that, we began conversing, and we soon found out we both loved to travel. He smooth talked his way into getting my Instagram so that he could "share pictures of his upcoming trip to Colombia". His intention really was to ask me on a date later. On our first date, he shared that he really wanted to take Salsa lessons, so I invited him to join a class with my Salsa instructor. A few months later in February, he asked me to be his girlfriend and, of course, I could no longer resist his charm! Needless to say, Juan has not been to a Salsa class since I agreed to be his girlfriend.

The Proposal

March 18, 2021 from Juan's Point of View

Ale had gone to Mexico to visit her family in March of 2021. We planned that after her visit to see her grandmother, we would meet up in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. Tlaquepaque is best known for its art, food and mariachi, and I knew Ale would love all of that. Little did she know, there was a bigger surprise in store for her. Before the trip, I planned a nice, private dinner at a rustic-style restaurant, complete with a waterfall and serenade (shout out to Javier for helping to make it happen). The look of joy on Ale's face was priceless. While we were waiting on dinner, Ale and I started talking about the importance of trust. Those of you who know I don't waste a moment for joking around; I took the opportunity to look at Ale and tell her that there was something I had hidden from her and that I could no longer wait to tell her. I looked down as if I was ashamed to tell her the unfortunate news; I could have won an Oscar for my performance. The look of terror on Ale's face was priceless. I finally ended her suffering by confessing that two weeks prior to the trip, I had asked her parents for her hand in marriage. At that moment, I got down on one knee to propose. Ale says she doesn't remember a whole lot between then and when she said "Yes", but I....don't remember either. We were both really nervous but really happy. To many years of watching Forensic Files together!
