Amy and Sam met on a dating app in June 2020. Amy had gone down to San Diego for the weekend to scope out apartments for graduate school, and Sam was stationed at the Coronado naval base. Sam knew she had found something special and drove up to Hermosa Beach for their first date, which involved a lot of sneaky looks and good conversation. From there, it was many FaceTimes and phone calls until Amy moved down to San Diego in August 2020. They spent the first few years of their relationship going on coffee dates by the embarcadero, going to the San Diego Zoo, and supporting each other in their respective careers.
After Amy graduated from San Diego State's master's program, and Sam retired from the Navy, they set their eyes on a new home: Austin, Texas! Neither of them had lived outside of California for a lengthy period of time, so in summer 2022, they packed their bags (and the dogs!) and headed southeast. Amy started working in psychiatric research at UT Austin, and Sam became a 9-1-1 EMT while preparing for nursing school at Concordia University. If you have the stomach for it, the latter will happily tell you about some of her amazing calls. Settled in their new home, the couple enjoy camping, walking their dogs, and eating a substantial amount of Texas BBQ.
After living together for half a year, Sam and Amy both knew they were meant for each other and started discussing engagement plans in late 2022. By February 2023, Sam had a ring hidden in the back of a drawer and was just waiting for the perfect time. She planned a romantic proposal for Amy, and surprised her with family and friends to witness the event! Amy’s first words after Sam got down on one knee? “I’m going to throw up”. Luckily for Sam, she didn’t. The weekend was spent with loved ones at Sam's favorite cider place, and then an engagement brunch complete with bloody mary bar. Make sure to ask the brides about Amy's ugly crying face to witness the epic photos!
