The Naval Academy was founded in 1845, and its campus is adjacent to downtown Annapolis. The Academy has a student body of 4,500 and upon graduation they commission as an Ensign in the Navy or a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Places to Visit Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center: located to the right of Gate 1, the visitor gate. The Naval Academy Museum: no entrance fee and offers two floors of exhibits about the history of seapower, the U.S. Navy, and the role of the Naval Academy. The Chapel: constructed in 1908 as the Naval Academy centerpiece, and its dome serves as landmark for Annapolis. The chapel is home to the world’s largest Drawknob organ, and consists of over 15,000 pipes. Crypt of John Paul Jones: John Paul Jones is considered the “Father of the Navy” because of his successes in the Revolutionary War and his role in the establishment of the Navy. The Crypt is made of 19 tons of black and white Italian marble, and is located below the Chapel

Recommend Restaurants: Iron Rooster: Located downtown on the busy Market Space Alley, and known for its comfort food and all-day breakfast. The restaurant offers a casual and cozy atmosphere with outdoors seating. A homemade pop-tart is a must get! Chick n Ruth's Delly: A small and lively dinner that has been a downtown institution for 50 years, and serves breakfast, piled high sandwiches, and huge milkshakes. It was also featured on “Man vs Food” The Choptank: A classic fish & crab house right on “Ego Alley” (the downtown boat slip) with spacious outdoors seating on the deck and rooftop.
Cantler's Riverside Inn: A family owned crab house since 1974 and known for its steamed Maryland Blue Crabs with J.O. spice (not Old Bay) and its riverside views.
